Some have dreamed, and prayed, and wished. They have waited, and worked, and planned. For others, it was a smooth and joyful transition to the next chapter in their life. And for others still, it came to them as a sudden and shocking surprise. No matter how it came to you, these past weeks and months of pregnancy have no doubt been unique to you and your child.
The purpose of having your pregnancy photographed is to celebrate your journey. The ups and downs, the twists and turns. The excitement, fear, worry, joy... Every moment that has brought you so close to finally meeting your baby. It is to celebrate being a woman and this truly amazing ability we have to grow another life, another little person, within us. And finally, to celebrate you and your partner, or your family, as it is before this new addition arrives.
You will experience a mix of heightened emotions, exhaustion, and something akin to an adrenaline high. Those first few days are full of exciting firsts and new challenges as you and your loved ones meet and get to know your baby. You will enjoy those first snuggles and breathe in that sweet, new baby scent. You will navigate the ins and outs, and ups and downs of those first few feedings, which, believe me, are not always a picnic in the park. There will be the first diaper change and maybe even the first bath. If you are lucky, you will get those first little smiles, which are probably just gas but you will refuse to believe it because how can something so wonderful and sweet and perfect be a mere bubble of gas. You will probably check fingers and toes, and you will count them again and again. Who knew you could marvel for hours at the pattern of wrinkles on a baby's foot? Or the surprisingly strong grip of a baby's tiny hand? And hopefully, when you are ready and up for it, your family and friends will come to meet your baby for the very first time, too.
The Hello, World session is meant to capture some of the wonder and love that you will experience in that first day or so after your baby is born. It is for brand new, squishy, wrinkly baby features that will fade so quickly. It is for all the little firsts, and all the big ones. And it is for celebrating the birth of your new baby...
In the first year alone, a baby goes through absolutely remarkable mental, emotional, and physical growth. They surpass incredible milestones and by their first birthday have already begun to become a little person. They have amazing personalities and quirks, completely unique to themselves. And all the while you are cheering them on and encouraging that growth and celebrating each milestone, but you also mourn all the little things that are fading so quickly as your baby becomes that little, independent person.
Photographing them in the first year, whether as a newborn within their first month, or as a six month old just learning to sit, or as a twelve month old celebrating their very first birthday, helps to document some of the exciting milestones and amazing growth that you and your baby experience together and also captures some of those precious baby traits that you may not be quite ready to let go of.
A moment-based family session will capture a little piece of your story, little memories that you can carry with you for the rest of your life in the form of beautiful photographs. It's purpose is to capture your family as they are now... a little bit of their personality, of who they are at this moment in time, as an individual and as a family unit. It's meant to be fun and to showcase the connections your family shares...
